Feet

Luk 10:38
Now it came to pass, as they went, that Jesus entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
Luk 10:39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
Luk 10:40 But Martha was encumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
Luk 10:41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
Luk 10:42But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

I've been thinking about feet lately....about the woman with the issue of blood who grasps the hem of Jesus's garment (by His feet) and gets healed by "stealing" some of His virtue. About the woman that kissed Jesus feet as she wiped them with her tears, tears of joy because of the tremendous love He had for her to forgive her all her many sins. About Jesus's feet pierced with the nails through them as He hung on the cross, weeping and dying.

Mary was close to Jesus and loved sitting at Jesus feet to hear His word. I tend to be more like Martha, and get angry when others aren't doing enough of their share of the work that needs to be done. I need to be more like Mary. "One thing is needful..." Lord help me to desire only that one thing and not be so troubled in my spirit about the things that won't amount to anything in the eternity.

Isa 52:7

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

  1. This brought to find other feet verses:

"I fell at His feet as dead"
    "The earth is His footstool"
"His feet were as fine brass"

I know I am more like Martha, too. But when I do get a Mary moment, the freedom, the peace!

  2. Hi Ma,

I thought of alot of other passages too, I'll do another "feet" entry, maybe on another day :-)

I'm right there with Martha telling Jesus: "Make Mary help me"... notice that He doesn't...but the same goes when someone has a gripe about me and says to Jesus: "That Susan, bla-bla-bla" and He says: "Susan belongs to me in spite of all those shortcomings, and you can't take that away from her with all your griping about her" HA! It's wonderful to have Jesus as our representative and counselor. :-)

  3. Amen! How beautiful the feet, indeed!

AS per your comment- I am sorry the shampoo didn't work for me too. It probably would have if I would just hang in there. I did see some positive results, too, it was just the negative was hard to work through. I read a lot about people having and adjustment period, mine just seemed to go on. and on and on!

And I actually do use vinegar in my clothes and my dishes! We make our clothes detergent and I am always trying to convince people that using vinegar in your clothes doesn't make you smell like A Greek salad! Isn't it great!? Vinegar is awesome.

  4. Hi Mrs. Jennifer,

In the dishes? I haven't tried that! Thanks!

I'm still new to all of this even though I worked many years in a healthfood store when I was younger... but now I'm doing it to be practical. At that time I was doing things "against the status quo" for more radical reasons, lol... and that wore off for me, especially when I turned to Jesus. :-)

    Thanks for the comments

  5. Oh how I can relate. I am totally Martha. I was actually discussing this with my husband at dinner. How by being unhappy about his share of work...I'm being self-righteous and selfish...I'm just glad God has brought me to the point where I realize what a sin it is and I don't find it OK to bash others for not doing their share of the work.

Thanks for visiting over at my blog! You have a world of knowledge over here!

  6. Hi Michelle :)

I always want to "put people in their place", but then the Lord reminds me that I can't even put myself "in my place" (or rather in the right place, lol) so what gives me that authority to do that to others?

The comfort is that Jesus will do so in the right time, and He will do so in the most correct way better than I ever could, and we will continue to be astounded by His great love and mercy.

Thanks for visiting me too! I read your blog as I'm able, and enjoy your thoughts. You are doing a marvelous job with your little ones, even if you don't always think so. Just the fact that you are in Jesus camp makes Him Lord over your home and your children, and that is awesome! You are so very, very blessed!
