Who is Kony?

(edited to add links at the bottom of this post)
Who Is Kony? And Is He Worth Losing Our Civil Liberties Over?
I was roaming around the internet looking at other people's thoughts on various blogs, and came across some comments about Kony 2012 and how we need to get rid of Kony who according to the person's blog that I was reading, was equivalent to the antichrist (or almost). So I did some looking around...and found out some things.
This young lady is from Uganda, and although she lives outside of Uganda, she states that she still visits there regularly. She says the campaign against Kony is a bunch of B.S. So I had to wonder: "Then what is going on?" Please watch what she has to say, and then consider Alex Jones comments to follow:

Some might not like Alex Jones....I agree with him much of the time (not all, but I do agree with him on this one)...the clip in the beginning shows Obama talking, saying:

"Do I think our actions in any way VIOLATE the war powers resolution? (please check link, and yes he does violate the war powers resolution) The answer is "no". So I don't even have to get to the Constitutional question."

...um, wait, look at that comment again...wasn't his oath to UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA????????????? what is he talking about? Watch this video carefully, and watch what Leon Panetta at the very start of this clip says about sidestepping Congress and the response "What I hear you saying is we are going to seek international approval and then tell the Congress what we are going to do"....wow...

Please I hope you are paying attention and see what is happening to our country:

  1. I have absolutely no idea what this is about. To my shame, I really haven't looked into it at all. I will.

    1. I didn't either, Ma, I stumbled into this one completely by accident. Both the girl in the first clip and Alex admit that Kony is not a nice guy, but that it isn't what tptb want to make him into, and that the president of Uganda is a bigger murderer than Kony is...so what is going on exactly? Misinformation...? Disinformation....? and for what purpose?

  2. Wow, this is so interesting how Alex says that this is how they are getting anti-war people to call for war.

What about war? Do you think Jesus (God even) is anti-war? I have a hard time reconciling old/new testament ideas about this. And even my own ideas..sheesh!

    1. Jesus didn't seem to be for or against it, He only said there would be "wars and rumors of wars" and to not let our hearts be troubled...but I do think he wants us to keep our eyes open, to be aware and to try to stand against injustices (as much as possible, it is so twisted and complicated sometimes). I just think it is easy to get swept into a "cause", but then we find out that there is a deeper layer to the cause, like in the above situation.

I've also heard that alot of money that is donated to charities that we think are helping people often goes toward things we would never donate to, a redistribution of wealth, which if we knew the truth we wouldn't have contributed to. Much better to help people that you know need assistance directly, bypassing that "middle-man organization" if possible.

    2. Amen on the charity thing. I know people need help in other parts of the world where they can't really help each other, but I really like the one-on-one no middleman idea.

I feel like so much money goes to administrative costs in these organizations. For instance, our church always does the Samaritan's Purse shoebox Christmas thing. Well, this year even though our church gave us the info we got no less that 3 separate mailings, with glossy color catalogs of things you could donate for this or that price from the organization to our home address. What a waste of money. PLUS, if I give to something I find it off-putting to be "reminded" again and again about it...know what I mean?

I think if everyone would help with immediate needs to their own area, which would involve us actually getting off our behinds (I'm preaching to myself here) and finding out what needs to be done or at least recognize an opportunity when the Lord presents it to us.

  3. I don't know much about the recent brouhaha over the Kony video, but I have been reading about Kony for years in numerous sources, both from the right and left, American and international, written both by reporters, professors, and foreign governments. It seems clear to me that he has murdered and maimed countless children, that he has had children commit terrible murders and other atrocities, that he has also committed terrible atrocities against adults, and that he will continue to do all this unless he is stopped. I know that few people here may agree with this, but I am all for killing this man, and I don't think that this is at all inconsistent with the gospels. When Jesus said turn the other cheek, I think that He meant that we shouldn't retaliate or harm others in any way out of a sense of personal shame, dishonor, etc. I don't think that He meant that we shouldn't stop the mass murder of children. I'm not saying that our government should interfere, because the situation is extremely complicated, but I think that we do have a moral obligation to stop Kony if possible. (Though again, it may not be possible.) To me, it's no different than the Holocaust, Darfur, etc. But that's just my two cents.

    1. Hi Leslie,

Thanks for your thoughts, I always enjoy reading them :)

The video clips above in this post both agree that Kony is a bad guy, there isn't a question about that.

The problem is that they are making him an issue now...when like the young lady in the first clip states, he hasn't been doing any murderings and etc, for at least 10 years, so why all of a sudden....??? Also the fact that the president of Uganda has slain many more people than Kony and nothing is being said or done about that also makes one wonder...why? What the young lady in the first clip brings up is that the people of Uganda don't even believe he's in Uganda anymore, so for Obama to send US$$ to Uganda to fight Kony is....a mystery...because Uganda's troops cannot look for him outside of Uganda, and if he isn't even IN Uganda, what are they doing?

It seems like there is another agenda that we aren't being honestly told about going on.

    2. My suspicion is that there isn't a deeper agenda. To be honest, I think that the government doesn't really care about atrocities in other countries unless they affect our pocketbook. If our government does anything to intervene, I think it will only because they will feel too embarrassed if they don't. And they may feel a little embarrassed for not doing anything now that the video went viral. However, I honestly doubt that we'll do anything. We haven't intervened in Darfur or other places where even more people have been killed. In a few weeks, everyone will forget about Kony, and he'll keep killing children.

    3. By the way, I didn't mean for either of my posts earlier to sound short. It has been a long, hard day. Ugh. I need to watch something funny and take my mind off these heavy things.

    4. "I think that the government doesn't really care about atrocities in other countries"

Actually, that was the main thing that I've been thinking about all this.

Did you watch the Alex Jones clip, Leslie? Did you see the statements made by Obama and Panetta? Embarrassed? These guys are brazen and bold faced liars. Agenda? I believe there is one: One World Government. (new world order)

    5. I didn't find the Jones clip very helpful. Honestly, I don't own a television, and I rarely read the news anymore, so I don't really know what President Obama has said recently about Uganda. I don't know the details of what President Obama has proposed (or even whether he has seriously proposed anything), and I don't know whether it would violate standing law. I am not a trained lawyer. My understanding of the US Constitution is that the President does not need Congressional approval for a range of military actions. Nonetheless, I wouldn't be surprised if our government were considering taking illegal actions - they have done it before, and they will do it again. I think that all politicians are dishonest, or at least that most of them are. It's a broken world we live in. We should demand more from our politicians. In fact, I just blogged about this. Anyway, I think that this is a good discussion to have.

I hope that you can post something new on the other blog soon. It has been a while since there was a new Bible treasure, and I enjoy reading them.

    6. I agree with you on several points, Leslie, I do admit that we

      1. only get "sound bites" of what is said out of context

      2. don't know the full story

      3. I am not a lawyer either

      4. yes, we are in a broken world and it is full of liars, many of them in high government positions

and about the other blog, the Holy Spirit did lay something on my heart to put there this morning :)

however, I will be going out of town this weekend so both blogs will be in hibernation for a couple of weeks while I visit family in California :D
