How Does My Garden Grow...

The weather is beginning to warm up....but the wind has been terrible!!!

Yesterday I repotted a couple of plants...

I got this peace plant last year....yesterday I divided it into two plants, it was getting extremely root bound, I should have taken pictures of the befores and during separation, I'll do that next time :)

 and #2, I put this one into the original pot

I learned this week

that when the peace lily's flowers are green

it is getting too much fertilizer,

the last 3 flowers have been green...

but there's hope

this new bud is looking the normal white color

I've been planting seeds, and putting them outside in the sun as the weather permits, getting them acclimated to being outside. Soon it will be time to plant my seedlings and cuttings outside! I can hardly wait!

This reminds me of the joy the new things the Lord has planned for us will bring. He is preparing a place for us!

A Mild Winter

So far winter here in the north has been mild and quite wonderful...last night we had a little snow, however the roads are still clear current temperature is slightly below 0 Celsius (28 F anything in the plus area is still great!!!)

(earlier this week...most of winter has looked like this so far...)

....and this morning:

we got about an inch of snow...

Well, I've got lots to do, so, gotta go, I hope the weather is wonderful where you are as well.

Enjoying the Summer

So the first official weekend of summer just passed us (first day of summer is the 21st...22nd?...of June), and it was a gorgeous weekend indeed, and of course I thank the Lord for all circumstances good or seemingly bad...

We went out for dinner near the water in Brockville (if you don't know where Brockville is, don't feel bad, I didn't either until my first visit there a few years ago, but if you ever find it you will love it there...

there was a festival going on, 

I've forgotten what the festival was called

there were lots of food stands...

my dear hubby offered me a beavertail

but I was so full from dinner...

don't you love the pac-man shaped lemonade stand?

the water, the sky, the clouds, just beautiful...

such a nice day for boating...

...and the snow melted within a couple of days

Just a few weeks ago the trees were ablaze with color, now the only trees that still have leaves are the evergreens...this was taken Saturday, and even though the colors were muted; greys, golds, and browns, with touches of green,
 it was so peaceful,
so serene....

Winter Wonderland

It snowed last night, and as a matter of fact, it's still snowing!

 Perfect day to stay indoors!

Don't think these will get much use until next summer...

I have lots of stuff to do today, fortunately it can all be done indoors.  I just got a new computer because my old one was almost nine years old and microsoft would no longer update software (or something like that, maybe it was the virus software that was no longer updated? Anyway, no longer useable). I love the new computer! That was the reason I haven't posted in a while, it was too cumbersome trying to do it on my Kindle.  Anyway, I'm back! I'll also post on Bible Treasures and Pearls (later this week). It's great to be back....now, I better get going on the chores :)

Another Chance at Spring...

Today is such a huge contrast from what we had yesterday. The sun is shining, and much of what had a thick blanket of snow on it is now mostly green (ok, and also brown) again. It is approximately +8 C (+39F) and large droplets are falling from the roof from the melting snow.

So I decided to go for a little walk, taking another direction from where I walked a few days ago.

and just enough green to give me hope...

that spring really is just around the bend.

There are still bits of snow hanging onto our house...

you can still see some on some of the window sills.

and also some on our porch...and

 ...hopefully soon

we can 

enjoy our outside seating again...

The Weatherman Was Right

Yep, it snowed last night, in fact it is STILL SNOWING!

this looks like January, NOT mid-April!

I was so hoping to enjoy our meals outside by now...

Hello...Spring? Are You There?

Forecast for today is rain...and the weatherman shared that the temperature will go below freezing again, and anticipate more snow (!???!!!??) tonight.

My DH and I visited the eastern end of Ontario over the weekend. Here on the western side, the snow has pretty much disappeared, with a few lingering patches of snow that just refuse to go away.

The east side, on the other hand, still has huge piles of snow where the snowplows have pushed the snow off the roads from the last storm (2 weeks ago).

Just to give an idea, these piles are about 4-6 feet high!

We got back to the west end in the late afternoon yesterday. I stopped to take a few pictures of a river near home, pictures I've wanted to take of this area for a while now, but always in too much of a rush. 

Yesterday it was very windy here, so windy I thought the wind would knock my phone out of my hand while trying to take these pictures

I love the muted browns in these pictures, they remind me of oil paintings from the times of the "Dutch masters" and I hope to paint these some day.

The quiet and somber mood of these river images are reflective of my melancholy mood this morning...it's very windy and drizzly outside right now. I need to be out doing some errands, however the cold wind outside makes me want to stay indoors, in the safe shelter of home.

I'm still waiting for spring...will it ever come to me this year?

Signs of the Times?

 I see many scoffers these days (dare I say even those who say they are Christians are likewise parroting these words?), who don't want to see what is blatantly happening all around us, and say "So what? It has been going on forever, nothing new under the sun...it is as it always has been"...., but is it truly?

Mammatus Clouds?

This is a new one on me! I saw DelphI's post about the tornadoes in Joplin Mo, (Missouri) and the pic she has up of the sky, and Researcher gave this link:

Those are, in fact, Mammatus clouds and are harmless. However, they are usually (but not always) associated with strong thunderstorms. In this case, these clouds would be associated with the strong storms that rolled through NY earlier. Some research suggests that these clouds are more prominent after the storm has passed. They are not a reliable indicator of a potential tornado. They are formed because moist air is interacting with dry air, the temperature differences causes evaporation at different levels and thus...these pouches form.


Think of it this way...you have your car parked next to the empire state building and some yahoo decides to throw a bucket of change off the top of the building. The bucket has all kinds of coins...quarters, dimes, nickels, etc. When the change lands on your car you'll expect lots of dings...some smaller dings (pennies that landed) some larger dings (quarters that landed). In this scenario, your car would be the cloud, the coins are raindrops or ice crystals and the size of the coin represents the amount of energy required for evaporation. So, for the clouds...the more evaporation that is required, the larger the pouch. Just likein our car scenario, the larger the coin, the larger the ding in your car.
  

Snowing part two...

Well, sort of...it's really gorgeous out now. Spring has finally sprung here. I wanted to put up pictures of Winters last assault, but my computer was challenging all my efforts. But now I have a second chance to put up a few pictures...

The first two were taken by a friend that lives about a half hour north of me, and were taken about five weeks ago , and the last two were taken from my apartment last Monday:

It's hard to believe those last two pictures were taken only earlier this week! Today it is sunny and warm, and all signs of snow are gone! What a gorgeous day...and I've got to get ready for work, lol....

I Can't Believe It's Snowing!!!

It's almost May, and the robins have been out and about, and I thought we'd seen the last of snow, but I looked outside and there's about 3-4 inches of snow on my balcony, and it's still snowing...I'd post a picture, but I can't get the pictures to load onto my computer....what happened to spring???? Waaahhh!
